蓮 Lotus

2017.7.14

知人に紹介されて、今朝大府市の星名池に行った。星名池は蓮の写真を撮るのに良い場所だと言われたのだ。
Introduced by an acquaintance, this morning I went to Hoshina lake at Obu city.
I was told it is a good place to take pictures of lotus flowers.

蓮の花は朝開いて昼には閉じてしまう。家を8:30に出発するつもりだったが、結局9:30になった。
Lotus flowers open in the morning and close by noon. I planned to leave my house at 8:30, but after all it was 9:30.

でもまだ、沢山の花が咲いていた。多分、曇の天気が味方してくれたのか。
Still, many flowers were blooming. Maybe, the cloudy weather favored me.

散った花びらが葉に受け止めれている。私が倒れた時は何が受け止めてくれるのだろうか等と考える。
Dropping petals are held by leaves. I wonder when I fall, what will hold me.

帰路に隣りにあるみどり公園に寄ってみた。子どもたちが水たまりではしゃいでいるのを見るのは良いものだ。
On the way back home, I stopped over at the Midori park next to the lake. It is good to watch kids are frolicking in the puddle.

2017.7.14
暑い日だった。にもかかわらず、2ヶ月ぶりに東山植物園に行った。当然、客は少ない。国外には特に目立ったものもなかった。しかし、更に暑い温室の中では幾つか面白いものを見た。
It was a hot day. Nevertheless, I visited Higashiyama botanical garden for the first time in two months. Naturally there were few visitors. There were nothing special outdoors. But, I found some interesting stuffs in the hotter conservatory.

これは大きなアガベの大きな花である。天井まで届いているが茎を曲げて更に伸びている。
This is a big flower of a big Agabe that reached the ceiling and bended the stem to grow even more.

名も知らぬ熱帯の花。
An unknown tropical flower.

サガリバナの花は夜に咲くので見ることができなかった。しかし、実がなっていた。 繊細な花に比べてでかい花だなぁと思った。
I was not able to see flowers of common putat as it blooms at night, but there were the fruits. I think they are disproportionately bulky and big to the fine and fragile flowers.

東山が花を見せるために夜に開館してくれると良いなぁ。
I wish Higashiyama opens at night to let us observe the flower of it.

マウイの食事 Dining at Maui

忘れない内にどんどんいきます。
I continue posting before I forget everything about the trip.

今回はマウイでの食事です。出て来る場所の位置はこの地図に。
This is about dining at Maui. The locations of the places referred are shown in this map.

朝食については、基本的にナピリマーケットで買っておいた食料をコンドで食べました。或いは、参加したツアーで出されたものか。ナピリマーケットはオーガニックフードも色々あったし、とても良いところです。
For breakfast, we had food bought at Napili market at the condo or ones that were provided by tours we joined. Napili market is a very good market including a lot of organic food.

昼食は、最初の日はいつものように接続待ちの間にホノルル空港のファストフード店で。
Lunch on the first day was
at Honolulu airport fast food counter as usual while we were waiting for the connection.
２日目はガゼボでテイクアウトを買ってビーチで頂きました。ガゼボはヘルシーな食事を提供するので、とても人気のあるレストランです。レストランで食べようとすると長い列に並ばなくてはなりません。しかし、テイクアウトならば又無くても良いのです。ただそう言えばいいのです。
We bought take out sandwich on the second day at Gazebo, and had on the beach. Gazebo is very popular as they provide good healthy food. You have to wait in a long line to dine at the restaurant, but you don't have to be in the line for food-to go. Just say so.
３日目はハナへのツアーの中でバスのお店で提供されました。
On the third day, the lunch was provided during tour to Hana at a bus shop.
４日目はラハイナのチーズバーガーインパラダイスに行きました。
On the fourth day we went to Cheeseburger in Paradise at Lahaina.

5日目のランチはイルカウオッチングツアーの中でした。
On the fifth day our lunch was on a boat during dolphin watching tour.
6日目はまたガゼボ。店の外に無料珈琲があることを教えてもらいました。
Sixth day Gazebo again.  This time I was told there is free coffee outside of the restaurant.
７日目はプランテーションハウスレストランに行きました。これはゴルフ場のレストランです。
Seventh day at Plantation House restaurant. This is a restaurant at a golf course.

夕食は、着いた日は疲れていることも有り、フィッシュマーケット・マウイでテイクアウトを買ってコンドで食べました。勿論、ナピリマーケットでビールとワインも調達。
Dinner, on the day of arrival we bought food to go at Fish market Maui, and ate in our room. Of course I bought beers and a bottle of wine at Napili Market.

夕食は疲れたり、面倒くさいという日が多く、Napili Marketのデリを買ってくることも多かったです。2日目、3日目、７日目。
Second day, Third day, Seventh day, we bought Deli from Maui Market.

４日目はマウイ・ブリューイング・カンパニー・ブリューパブで。ローカルの生ビールがたくさんあり、ビール好きには堪りません。面白い食べ物も色々有ります。
Fourth day, we went to Maui brewing company brewpub. They offer varieties of local draft beer. An irresistible place for a beer lovers. Also, you can enjoy interesting food.

５日目、味噌ファット寿司。

すいません、美味しすぎて写真撮り忘れました。
Sorry, the sushi was too good to take a photo before eating.

Happy rolling lady at the restaurant.

ここではアルコールが注文できません、でもがっかりしないで。彼女は私に隣の食料品店に行き好きなものを買って持って帰りのんでいいよと教えてくれました。安くて良いシステムです。
You cannot order alcoholic drink here, but don't get disappointed. She advised me to go to the grocery store next to this restaurant and buy any drink I like and bring it back to here and drink! Nice and non-expensive system.

6日目はルアウで食べました。

Luau

以上以外にレオダのキッチンとパイの店に友人と落ち合うために行きました。お菓子は美味しいし、バナナビール等アルコールを含めて色々な面白い飲み物が楽しめます。
Other than those, we also dropped in at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop as a meeting place with my friends. The sweets are good, and you will find interesting drink like banana beer including alcoholic here.

フラ Hula

妻がジムでフラを習っていることも有り、今回の旅行ではフラのショーを3回見に行きました。
As my wife is learning hula at the gym she goes, during this last trip we went to watch hula show three times.

最初に行ったのがマウイ島のハイアットで見られる"Drums of the Pacific Lu'au"。実は、最初は"Old Lahaina Luau"に行きたかったのですが、予約をしようとした時その後一週間は全て一杯だったのです。これを見たいと思う人はずいぶん早く予約したほうが良いですよ。
The first one is "Drums of the Pacific Lu'au" at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. Actually, I first wanted to go to "Old Lahaina Luau", but when I try to make a reservation the all following week had been fully booked. If any of you plan to watch this, you had better reserve by many days before you go.

車を止めた後、景色を楽しみながらハイヤットのお庭を歩いて向かいます。

After parking our car, we walked through the garden of Hyatt enjoying scenery. 

着いた時には長い列がもうルアウを待っています。私達が並んだ後ももう後ろにはもっと長い列ができてしまいました。

When we arrive there had been a long line already waiting for the luau. After we got in the line, the line got even much more longer behind us.

  

30分ぐらい待って、席に案内され選択した飲み物を渡されます。
After waiting for thirty min. or so, we were guided to our seat and were handed a glass of drink we chose for either of us.

宴会が始まります。最初のセレモニーはいつものように伝統的な方法で地下に埋めて焼かれた豚を掘り出します。
The feast started. The beginning ceremony is, as usual, digging out the pig that had been roasted underground in a traditional fashion.

食事が始まります。一等席の客が優先なので、私達のような一般席の客はその後から食事のあるテーブルに案内されます。
Meal started. As the first class guest are given a priority, we, in the group of general guests were guided after them to the food table.

ここのルアウの良いのは飲み物が追加費用無く飲み放題のところ。

A good thing about this Luau, is you can drink as much as you can without additional pay.

2回目はワイキキに移動した日に行った、クヒオビーチのフラショー。週に何回か無料でやっています。デュークの像の少し南東。時間が来ると人が舞台の周りに集まり始めます。
The second one is on the day we moved to Waikiki. Hula show at Kuhio beach.  It is performed several evenings a week and free. The location is a little south east of the Statue of Duke. When time comes, people get together around the stage.

そしてフラが始まります。

And the Hula starts.

3つ目はヒルトン・ハワイアン・ビレッジで。また実は、金曜日に週一の花火と一緒に見たかったのですが、お分かりのように満席でした。これは木曜日。いつものように列で並んだ後、今回は比較的舞台に近い席に案内されました。

The third one is at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Actually again, I wanted to see this on Friday to watch weekly fireworks at the same time. But, it was full as you can easily imagine. This was on Thursday.

After waiting in the line as usual, we were able to get a seat rather close to the stage.

 

私の感じでは、このショーが他の２つに比べてエキサイティングだったと思います。しかし、ここでは付いているドリンクは2杯まで。まそれで私たちには充分でしたが。
My impression is the dance is more exciting here than the other two. But, here free drink is just two glasses, but it was enough for us.

マウイの植物 Plants on Maui

動物については公開した。ということで、当然これはマウイの植物についてです。

I posted about animals. So obviously, this post is about the plants we saw in Maui.

プルメリアは何処にでもあってどこでも咲いています。フラの男性ダンサーが木から花をちぎって髪に刺しているのを一度見ました。この木は私達が滞在したコンドのラナイの前の大きな木です。

Plumeria were common everywhere and flowering everywhere. I once saw a male hula male dancer tore off a flower and put in his hair. This is the big one in front of the lanai of the condo room we stayed.

マンゴーはあちこちで実をつけていました。この木は泊ったコンドの敷地の隣にある木。
Mango was bearing fruits at many places. This is a tree next to the premises of condo we stayed.

実は当然地面に落ちるし、自動車の上にも落ちる。
Fruits naturally drop to the ground, and cars parked.

道沿いにはサボテンの花が咲いていました。
Along the street I saw some cactus flower.

今回の最も素晴らしい経験の１つは実際にレインボーユーカリを見られたこと。ずっと見たいと思っていました。一度種をネットショップで買って蒔いたのですが、駄目でした。こんなにハナへの道のそばにあるというのはちょっとショック。同時に、心無い人の沢山の彫り込みがあったのは悲しかった。
One of the greatest experience for us this time is to see real rainbow eucalyptus. I have been longing to see this for many years. Once I bought seeds from a net-shop, and seeded in vain. It was a kind of shock to know they were growing so close to the road to Hana. At the same time we were sad to see many inscription done by heartless people.

松葉蘭をここで見るとは驚き!
It was surprising that I see whisk fern there.

おおきなバンヤンツリー
Big big banyan tree.

ビカクシダ。これは人が植えたのか、自然に生えたのかわからないなぁ・・・。
Stag-horn Fern. I don't know this is natural or somebody planted there.

南洋杉なのでしょうか?　あちこちにありました。これはプランテーションゴルフ場カパルアコースのクラブハウス前のものです。
Hoop pine? was seen here and there. This was at the entrance of the club house of The Plantation Course at Kapalua.

植物は大好き。私は沢山植物を育てていますが、ハワイの人はいい気候で羨ましい。
I love plants. I grow many plants I envy Hawaiians for their wonderful climate.

マウイの動物、マイウじゃねぇよ Animals at Maui, not Maiu

妻と6月にハワイに行ってきました。今回はマウイとオアフに泊まりました。この記事はマウイで会った動物たちのことです。

My wife and I have been to Hawaii in June. This time we stayed in Maui and Oahu. This article is about the animals that we met  Maui.

我々はマウイ島ナピリ地区のあまり高くないコンドに泊まりました。私達の生活からすれば安くはないのですが、周辺の施設に比べるとお手頃なお値段でした。そこに泊ったのはナピリ地区がスノーケリングやビーチ遊びに良いからです。

We stayed at a reasonable condo at Napili area of Maui island. It is not cheap for our lives, but compared with the surrounding ones it offered a good fee. We stayed there because Napili area is a good place for snorkeling and beach activities.

コンドは少し年季が入っていましたが、私達にとっては快適でした。庭には大きな熱帯樹木が沢山あります。それで、動物たちが何度も部屋に歓迎に来てくれました。

The condo is a little bit aged, but comfortable for us. In the garden there are many big tropical trees. So, animals visit our room often welcoming us.

美しい緑色のヤモリ。もし法に触れなければ、とっても連れて帰りたかった。

A beautiful green Gecko. If it is not unlawful, I really wanted to take it back home.

紅冠鳥。この鳥は最初の朝に来てくれてとても人懐っこい感じでした。しかし、その後2度と来なかった。
Cardinals. They visited us in the first morning and were very friendly, but never again.

今回はイルカウオッチングのツアーに参加しました。ツアー中、一度だけハシナガイルカの大群に会い、ボートの側まで来てくれました。
This time we joined a dolphin watching tour. During the tour, a big herd of Spinner dolphins came close to our boat.

また、スノーケリングをコンドのそばやツアーの途中で楽しみました。残念なことに、水中カメラ用のメモリーカードを自宅に置き忘れてしまい、マウイで買ったフジの使い捨てカメラで撮ったのです。撮りやすさは良かったのですが、出来た写真は私のカメラほどではありませんでした。

Also, we enjoyed some snorkeling near our condo and also during the tour. Unfortunately I left my memory card at home for my underwater camera and took pictures with a Fuji disposable camera I bought in Maui. It was easy to frame, but the pictures were not as good as the ones with my camera.

 2匹か4匹の文鳥がほぼ毎日ラナイの前のプルメリアの木に来ていました。
Almost every morning two to four Java sparrows were on a plumeria tree in front of the lanai of our room.

見慣れない動物との遭遇や日本にもいる動物との再会はいつも楽しい。
It is always fun to encounter animals that are not familiar to us and also reunion ones also found in Japan.
