桜の花咲くころ〜 It is about the time when cherry blooms...

私は、桜の花が大好きである。ここ数年、死ぬなら桜の季節になるといいと願っている自分に気付く。年々益々桜が好きになってくる。

I love cherry flowers. For these few years, I found myself desiring that when I die, I want it to be a season of cherry flowers. I love cherry flowers more and deeper every year.

4月1日「IEEE LMAG東京支部の活動について」という講演会に出かけることになっていた。今、名古屋支部はIEEE LMAGを立ち上げようとしていて、他のLMAGの活動がどのようなものかを知る必要があるのである。ちなみに、LMAGというのは"Life Members Affinity Group"のことである。まあ老人会みたいなものだ。

On April 1, I had planned to attend a lecture about "The activities of IEEE LMAG of Tokyo branch". Because, now Nagoya branch is working to establish IEEE LMAG at Nagoya branch, we needed to know how are the activities of existing LMAG at the other branches. BTW, LMAG stands for "Life Members Affinity Group". A kind of a group of aged persons.

講演は午後遅くであった。そこで、講演の前に白鳥庭園と鶴舞公園を周り、丁度咲き始めた桜の花を楽しんだのである。

The lecture was to be held in the late afternoon. So, before the lecture, I visited Shirotori garden, and Tsuruma park to enjoy cherry flowers started to bloom just now.

桜が咲く前は他の花が楽しませてくれた。まだ一部は美しいままだ。

Before cherry blooms, some other flowers had us enjoy early spring. Some of them were still beautiful.

他にも椿を幾つか。椿の花は簡単にいたんでしまうので、このような完璧な状態の花を探すのは難しい。この日はラッキーだった。
Some other camellias. As camellia flowers are easily damaged, it is hard to find flowers in perfect conditions like these. I was lucky on the day.

そして、桜である。
And, now cherries.

この花はなんという名前か聞き忘れてしまった。
I forgot to ask a name of this plant.

これはカエデである。池の中にある岩に生えている。
It is a maple tree growing on a rock in a pond!

鶴舞公園は花見宴会を楽しむ人で一杯であった。若人は今も、40-50年前の我々と同様にギターを引いて歌を歌っていた。
Tsuruma park were filled with people enjoy "Hanami" party. Young guys are still playing guitars and singing songs just like us forty/fifty yeas ago.

柳の木が緑の若芽を開こうとしていた。
Willow trees started to grow their young green leaves.

満開ではなかったが、もうすぐそうなるであろう。
Still not in full bloom, but soon it will be.

Like "The Blue Bird". 青い鳥みたいじゃないか

京都から帰ってきて家の周りを見回してみれば、満開の桜だらけ。
Looking around my home when we came back from Kyoto, there were full of cherry blossoms in full bloom.

カワセミまで出てきた。

Even a king fisher came out.

旅館で京都最後の朝。これは庭に数年前に植えられたばかりの桜。３輪の花が咲いてくれた。
The last morning at the hotel. This is a cherry tree planted just a few years ago in the garden. Three flowers bloomed for us.

京都最終日は雨だった。清水寺に行った。清水寺に行く道は狭く、皆が傘を指していて、観光バスが行き交う。大変だった。
The last day in Kyoto was rainy. We visited Kiyomizu-dera temple. The road to the temple is narrow , everybody was putting up umbrellas, the touring buses were going back an forth. It was really hard to walk up to there.

最後の昼食は麸の専門店。色々な味に料理してくれる。
The last lunch was at a restaurant of wheat gluten. They cook it into varieties of tastes.

次の日は夙川公園に。ここの桜は素晴らしい。
On the next day, we visited Shukugawa-park. The cherries there were awesome.

名古屋への帰路、信楽に立ち寄った。高名な焼き物の街だ。植木鉢を幾つかお徳用に買った。

On the way back to Nagoya, we stopped at Shigaraki town. A famous pottery town. I bought several flower pots at reasonable prices.

買ったのは、この地図にあるかみ山陶器。植木鉢、睡蓮鉢、花器の専門店。

The shop I bought is Kamiyama pottery. It is specializing in flower pots, water lily pots, and vases. 

朝から晩まで From morning till night

前のブログに書き忘れたが、今年の京都訪問は桜を十分楽しむには少し早すぎた。去年は遅すぎたし、今年はずっと暖かかったので去年より一週間早めたのだ。
それはそれとして・・・
二日目の朝、車は旅館において妙心寺まで歩いて行った。道すがら桜の花が歓迎してくれた。
I forgot to write in the previous blog that we visited Kyoto a little early for fully enjoying cherry blossoms this year. Since we were late last year, and since it had been warmer than last year, we planned the trip a week earlier than last year.
Anyway...
Next morning, we left our car at the hotel and walked to the Myoshinji temple.
On the way, cherries were welcoming us.

今回は1656年狩野探幽作の雲龍図を拝見するツアーに参加した。この絵を描くために淡幽は8年を費やしたそうだ、そしてこれは国の重要文化財に登録されている。

This time we joined a tour to view a painting of "Dragon and clouds" painted by Tanyu Kano in  1656. It took him eight years to paint and is registered as one of the important cultural properties of Japan.

そして、ガイドは次に明智風呂なる所に連れて行ってくれた。これは文字通り高僧のためのサウナぶろである。これも重要文化財。名前が示すように明智光秀に関係があるのだが詳しい説明は皆さんのお勉強にゆずる。

And, the guide took us to the Akechi bath also. This is literally a sauna bathroom for high ranked monks and also registered as one of the important cultural properties of Japan. As the name shows, this is related to Mitsuhide Akechi, but the explanation about this is left for your investigation.

ランチタイム!　近くの料亭で精進料理を頂いた。
Time for lunch! We had Shojin-ryori at the restaurant near the temple.

次の桜は法金剛院で。
The next cherry place was Hokongo-in temple.

黒椿。こんなのは初めて見た。妖艶な美しさ。

Black camellia. We have never seen this before! Somewhat bewitching beauty.

バスに乗って四条川端辺に。観光客が着物をレンタルして回っている。
Taking a bus we came to Shijo Kawabata area. Many tourists rent Kimono and sightsee.

円山公園の有名な枝垂れ桜。去年も来たが、遅すぎたし雨だった。今年は少し早すぎたが、去年よりは良い。
A famous cherry tree at Maruyama park. We came here last year too, but it was a little too late and the day was rainy. This year is a little too early, but better than yesterday.

知恩院の桜はほぼ満開だ。残念ながら16:00で閉門してしまっている。

The cherry at Chion-in temple was almost in full bloom. Unfortunately, the temple was closed after 16:00.

観光客が２人ガイドブックを見ながら将来について語り合っている。

Two tourist were consulting guidebooks and discussing their future.

次の目的地は青蓮院。夜間公開には少し早い。「開けてくれ〜」と叫んでいる。(笑)

The next destination was Shoren-in temple. It was a little early for night-time opening. I was yelling, "Open the door, please!" ;-)

庭園のライトアップ
The garden lighted up.

ディナータイム! 祇園白川のイタリアンレストランを予約しておいた。道すがら桜が美しくライトアップされていた。
Time for dinner! We had reserved a table at Italian at Gion Shirakawa. On the way, cherries were beautifully lighted up.

窓側の席で食べながら花見ができた。
From the window seat, we were able to enjoy the view while eating.

半分食べたパスタ。このパスタは京漬物のパスタで、とってもおもしろい味だつた。
Half eaten pasta. This is pasta with Kyoto pickles, and the taste of it is fabulously interesting.

レストランから出て、夜はまだ浅い。
Coming out of the restaurant, still the night was young.
