Unexpected things in Australia 思いがけない物 - オーストラリア旅行で

オーストラリアに行くのは2回目だったが、10年近くもたっている。びっくりするようなことがあった。

It was our second time to visit Australia, but after about ten years. There were things that amazed us.

まず、驚いたのは入国審査。ブリスベンから入国した。入国審査は全てオートマチック。パスポートを機械に押し込むことから始まり、自動写真撮影まで。すごく、早い!!

The first thing I was surprised was the immigration check. We entered Australia from Brisbane. The immigration check is all automatic. Starting from pushing my passport into a machine, and end with automatic photo taking. So fast!!

次は旅行者免税システム。$300以上のものを買うと出国時に税金が還付される。私の馴染みのあるヨーロッパでは、書類を書いて、それを空港の中にある探すのも難しい税関に持っていき、認可を得て、それを別のカウンターに持っていくか、郵便で送る。とても退屈でイラつくタスクだ。特に、飛行機に間に合わなくてはならない時や最後のお土産を買おうとしている時は。しかし、オーストラリアでは、唯TRFカウンターで商品を買った店から貰った紙を一式渡し、チェックを受け、返金を受けるクレジットカードをスワイプするだけ。更に、スマホを持っていれば、アプリをダウンロードして、そのアプリで還付の要求を準備できる。カウンターですることはアプリが生成したQRコードを見せて、スワイプするだけ。とても簡単で、早い!!　実はもっと簡単なシステムがある。この方法は「ライセンス」を取った店での買い物にしか使えない。この方法では価格の制限は無いし、そもそも買った時に税金を払わなくていい。することは商品を見せながら店でもらった紙を出国手続きの辺に立っている職員に渡すだけ。

Another is Tourist Refund Scheme. When you buy merchandise more expensive than $300.00, we can get refund of the tax applied to the product at the time of departure. In Europe that I had been familiar with, we have to fill in forms, bring it to customs - that is hard to find - at the airport, getting authorization, and go to another counter or send a paper mail. Very tedious and frustrating tasks. Especially when we are busy to catch your flight and sometimes try to buy the last chance souvenirs. But, in Australia, just show at the TRF counter a set of paper that is given by the shop you bought the product, and swipe your credit card to receive your refund. Moreover, if you have a smartphone, you can download an application, prepare your claim using the application. All you have to do at the counter is to show the QR code the application created, and swipe. So easy, so fast!! Actually, there is another more easier system. It looks like this method can be used only when you buy product at the "licensed" shop. By this, there is no price limitation and in the first place you need not pay tax when you buy. All you have to do is to give a paper that had been given at the shop to an officer while showing the product at the departure process.

野生動物 Wild animals

オーストラリアは野生の天国。旅行中に色々な種類の野生動物に巡り合った。

Australia is a heaven of wild lives. We met several wild animal while traveling in Australia.

ケアンズ海岸にいたペリカン。

These are pelicans at the beach of cairns.

ある日、野生動物見物のツアーに入った。この写真はツアー中に会った動物だ。ツアーが始まる前は、未開の森や沼を探検することを想像していたが、この動物たちを見れたのは田舎道の傍ら、農家の庭、草原の中の小川だった。それだけ自然が濃いということか。

One day, we joined a tour to watch wild animals. These are what we met during the tour. Before the tour had started, I was imagining exploring wild forests or swamps, but where we were able to watch the animals was just at the side of rural roads, garden of a farmer, or a small stream in a grass field. The nature is so dense there.

フルーツコウモリ。まだ午後早いと言うのにとても活動的。

Flying fox, even though it is early afternoon, they are really active.

飛ぶとカイトのよう。
Whey it flies, it looks like a kite.

たくさんいる。
There are a lot.

キノボリカンガルーは三匹木の上にいた。これはその内の2匹。母親と赤ちゃん。

Tree Kangaroo were on a tree three of them. The photo is of the two, a mother and a baby.

カモノハシも何匹か水から出てきた所を見ることが出来た。私のレンズに対して少し遠かったので、出来た写真はネッシーのよう。

We were able to see several platypus coming out of water. Since it was a little far for my lens, the finished photos look like the one of Nessie.

野生の七面鳥?感謝祭はまだ先のせいかのんびりと歩き回っていた。
Wild turkey? Since there was still some time until Thanksgiving, she moved around relaxed.

黒蛇。我々のプロのガイドがこの蛇が見えなくなるまでついて行っていたので、珍しいんだろうね。
A black spider. Since our professional guide were following the snake until it disappeared, the one must be rare.

ポッサム。我々のガイドが真っ暗な森の中にいるこいつらを天才的に見つけて光を当ててくれるのには驚嘆した。
Possum. It was amazing how our guide geniusly finds these in the pitch dark wood and lights them for us.

ここからはツアー中ではなく、ハミルトン島で見た野生動物たち。

島内を無料で走り回っているバスに乗っていた時、ワラビーが空港の外の原っぱに座っていた。運転手はよく見えるようにバスをゆっくり走らせてくれた。

The ones below this are not from the tour. They are what we met in Hamilton Island.

While we were on a free bus running around the island, one Wallaby was sitting on the field outside of the airport. The driver slowed the bus to let us watch her.

この鳥、オーストラリアイシチドリ、はホテルのレストランの夕食に何回も残り物をもらいに来た。
This bird, Bush Stone-curlew, came several times to the hotel restaurant dinner to get remaining food.

キバタンは島のどこにでもいる。食べ物を見ると人間にも近づいてくる。
Cockatoos were everywhere in the island. They approaches to humans when they see some food with us.

なんだかよくわからないのだが、カラスによく似ている。日本のカラスとの違いは、白目があること、羽に白い部分があること、そして声が美しいこと。
I am not sure what they are, but they look like craws. The different points from crows in Japan are they have white of eyes, some feather are white, and the voice is beautiful.

ここからはシドニー。オーストラリアクロトキは港、海のそばで見られる。これはフィッシュマーケットで。

From here, these were seen in Sydney. Australian white ibis were able to be seen near port, or ocean. This was at the fish market.

これはサーキュラー・キー。
This was at Circular Quay.

このカラス(?) はどこにでもいる。
This crow (?) can be seen anywhere.

切れた Disconnected

私のマックが充電されていないことに気づいた。コンバーターをいじると充電が再開された。これは良くない。修理することにした。実は、2週間くらい前我々がオーストラリアに旅行に出る前からケーブルが傷んでいることに気づいていたのだ。その時は酷くならないようビニールの荷造りテープで巻いておいた。しかし、酷くなったようだ。
I noticed my Mac was not charged. Fingering the converter, charging restarted. This is not good. I decided to fix the problem. Actually, I noticed the wire from the converter had been damaged before we traveled to Australia about two weeks ago. At that time I treated it by vinyl wrapping the cable with packaging tape so that the damage would not grow. However, it looks like it grew.

テープを取るとメッシュのグランド・ラインが殆ど切れかけていることに気づいた。燃えだす前に気づいてラッキーだった。
Removing the tape, I found the mesh ground wire is almost disconnected. I was lucky that I found this before it started to fire.

被覆のビニールを取るとワイヤーは完全に切断された。
Removing the covering vinyl, the wire disconnected completely.

メッシュワイヤーを古い同軸ケーブルから取り外したメッシュワイヤで包みはんだ付けした。

I wrapped the mesh wire by a copper mesh wire that is removed from my old coaxial cable, and soldered them.

そして、接続部の補強のために同じく同軸ケーブルから外した被覆ビニールで覆った。
And, cover with a vinyl also removed from my coaxial cable to reinforce the connected part.

さらにビニールテープを巻き、シリコンのコーキング剤で覆った。
Wrapping with vinyl tape, and covered with silicon caulking agent.

ケーブルは使えるようになったが、暫くは無人で充電しないようにしよう。

It started working, but for a while I won't charge my Mac unattended.

これらは一体何だ? What the heck are they?

以前からgoogle photoのalbum page上部に下の写真のような自分が作ったわけではない幾つかの小ぶりなサムネイルがあるのに気づいていた。サムネイルに使われている写真は私のものなのだが、サムネイルそのものは私が作ったものではないのだ。

I have noticed in the album page of google photo site there are smaller thumbnails at the top of the page that I did not create like one below. Although the picture used are my creation, the thumbnails in the first row are not albums I created.

しかし、今日までそれを詳しく見たことはなかった。面白いことにどうもグーグルが私の写真を自動的に分類したもののようだ。googleがどのようにしてこの分類をしたかを創造するために中身を詳しく見てみた。そしてその幾つかはとても興味深く可笑しいのだ。幾つかは私にその写真に対する新しい見方をさせてくれたりした。
Until today, though, I didn't look into the detail of them. Interestingly it looks like a classification that google automatically has done to my pictures.  I looked in detail to imagine how they did this classification, and found some of them are really impressive and funny. Some of them even have me have new views to my pictures.

一番面白いと思われるものが沢山あったのは、被写体のカテゴリー。被写体カテゴリーは更に幾つかの小分類に分けられている。
Most ones I found most interesting are in the category of "Subject". The subject category is divided into more sub-classes.

これは蝶に分類されている写真。面白くない?

This is a picture categorized as a butterfly. Isn't it understandable?

これもgoogleが蝶と思ったものだ。たぶん花に関してであって、蜂ではないと思う。

This also google thought as a butterfly. It is probably about the flower not the bee, I guess.

ここまでは、googleは画像の中身を見て分類しているように思える。多分、googleが持っている膨大な写真から創られたデータベースと比較して。そしてディープラーニングとやらを使用してだ。

So far, they look like classifying pictures by their graphical contents. Probably against their database created from tons of pictures they have. And using deep learning stuff.

彼らは蝶のデータベースに幼虫も含めているらしい。

It looks like they have larva image data also in the butterfly class.

彼らはどうやら撮影日も使っているようだ。これは何年も前の10月31に撮影した写真。しかし、これが画像の中身からHalloweenに分類されていたとしてもまあ悪くはない。
They seem to use also the dates the picture taken. This I took on Oct. 31 in many years ago. But, it is not so bad if they classified this as Halloween using image contents.

これは花火に分類。この分類も責められないな。

This is one of them classified as fireworks. I can't blame they contained this one in the class.

犬のような(?)ウサギ。
A dog-like(?) rabbit.

猫のような(?)ウサギ。
A cat-like(?) rabbit.

この食品は食べられない。
I cannot eat these "food".

もしかしたらタグ、私がblogに使用したり、写真自体に付けたもの、も活用しているかもしれない。
They might also use tags that I put on when I used in my blog and also pictures them selves.

もししたことがなかったら、ご自分のgoogle picturesも見てみることをお勧めする。

初めて行った場所 Places visited for the first time

去る8月に暑さから逃れるため蓼科高原に行った。もう何度も行っているので、最近は徐々に蓼科外に訪問先を広げている。

We went to Tateshina highlands running away from heat in this past August. As we had been there for so many times, in these years we gradually expand the places we visit outside of Tateshina. 

8月23日、家を出た日は、八ヶ岳倶楽部、森林庭園、レストラン、ショップの組み合わされた場所、柳生家が開発し管理している。前から行きたかったが、若い柳生くんが亡くなったと聞き、益々思いが募り、ここを訪問するチャンスを待っていた。

On Aug. 23, the day when we left our home; we visited Yatsugatake Club, a wood garden, restaurant, specialty shops complex that Yagyu family developed and managing. I wanted to visit there since before. After I heard Yagyu junior passed away, the desire had increased and I have been waiting for a chance to visit there.

もっと遠いと思っていたのだが。実際は蓼科との間は一時間くらいだった。ということで、お昼ごろに現地についた。ちょうどランチに完璧なタイミングだ。

I thought it is further than it really is. Actually it is at just an hour drive from/to Tateshina. So, around noon we were there and was a perfect timing to have lunch there.

Fruit tea is one of the feature of the restaurant. 

これがレストランのテラスから見た森の景色。要するに原生林のど真ん中にある。とてもすがすがしく穏やかな雰囲気だ。
This is a view of the garden from the terrace of the restaurant. Basically it is in the midst of wild wood. Very refreshing and very calming.

可愛い園芸店

A pretty gardening shop.

可愛い爽やかな花が施設のあちこちに咲いていた。
There were pretty refreshing flowers all around the establishment.

 

昼食とショップの素見の後倶楽部を出た。いつも泊まるペンションに着くと懐かしい顔が出迎えてくれた。
We left the Club after lunch and window shopping. When we arrived at the hotel we always stay, an old familiar face welcomed us.

そして新顔も会いに来てくれた。こいつは普段この石積みの隙間に住んでいる。この時はみみずを食べに出てきたのだが、捕まえ損ねた。可哀想に。
Also, a new face came out to see us. He is usually living in an opening in this stone pile. He came out at that time to eat an earth worm that he failed to catch. Poor guy!

そこに二晩泊った。二日目には獲物は殆ど無かったが釣りを楽しんだ。何も考えずに沢を歩くのも楽しい。
We stayed for two nights there, and I enjoyed fishing on the second day although barely catching game. It is good to walk in a small stream feeling mindless.

帰宅する日、反対方向、東の方に「久保田一竹美術館」を訪問しに向かった。彼は有名な着物デザイナー、創作者で「一竹辻が花」染めという技術の大御所だ。彼の傑作がここには展示されている。
On the way back home, we drove to the opposite direction, to the east to visit "Icchiku Kubota gallery". He is a famous Kimono designer and an creator specialized in fabulous "Icchiku Tsujigahana" dyeing, and his masterpieces are displayed there.

美術館の建物に行くまでには、滝と池のある静謐な庭を歩いて進む。
Before we reached the gallery building, we were to proceed through a tranquil garden with a fall and pond.

美術館の外装はバルセロナのガウディを思わせる。
The exterior of the gallery building reminds me of Antoni Gaudi of Barcelona.

残念ながら室内では写真を撮ることが許されていない。しかし、これは施設のホームページにある写真だ。
Unfortunately we are not allowed to take pictures inside. But this is a one from their homepage.

彼の着物はとてつもなく複雑で美しく、我々を彼の芸術の世界に引きずり込む。
His Kimonos are extremely intricate and exquisite, and we were drown in to his art world with just a few visitors then.

美術館の中では思いがけなくフルートとギターのミニコンサートを楽しむことも出来た。
We was also able to enjoy an unexpected mini-concert of a flute and a guitar at the gallery.

最後に帰路につく前に陣馬の滝と呼ばれる滝を見に小さな道に入った。ナビが題に駐車場に連れて行ったので10分くらい歩かないといけなかった。その滝は川の水と岩から溢れる湧き水からなる幾つかの小さな滝で出来ていた。川は浅く、子どもが水遊びするにも良い所のようだ。
Finally before we start to drive home, we drove into a small path to see a fall called "Jinba fall". We had to walk about ten minutes as my navigation system guided us to the secondary parking area. It consists of several small water falls of river water and also springwater coming from the rock wall. Looks like a good place for kids to play in the water as the water is shallow.

水はとても透き通っていて綺麗。
Water is extraordinary clean and clear.

ここの後第二東名を走り夕方には家についた。
After this, we drove on the second Tomei expressway arriving home in the evening.
