出会いというのに至るまでには色々な経緯がある。人との場合もそうだが、ここは本との出会いである。
There are many kinds of stories to come to encounters. It is so about with humans, but this is about an encounter with books.
例えば、好きな本屋で時間つぶししている間にふと手にとってしまった場合。以前はよくあったケースだが、最近は所有物、特に形のある所有物を増やすことに少々抵抗があるし、そもそも外出の機会が減っているから本屋に行く機会も激減している。従ってこのケースで買うことも激減だ。但し、少しは行くから、本の魅力次第でその本をKindleで注文したり、図書館で借りたりして読むということは0ではない。
For example, one case is when I end up picking up one when I am killing time at a favorite bookstore. It happened often before, but recently I hesitate to own, especially physically, things, and also as the opportunity I go out to town decreased, the chance to go to bookstores dropped a lot.
本屋と間接的に繋がっているのは、私が中高生の頃、本屋から無料の岩波、新潮、角川等各社文庫本カタログを貰って来て、それを頭から熟読しその中かから本を買うなんてこともよくやった。今はどうか知らないが、当時は本屋にこのカタログが山のようにおいてあった。今はカタログを持っていないのでこのケースで本に出会ったというのは何十年も前の事になった。
Indirectly connected with bookstores, it happened a lot that when I was high-school / junior-high, I obtained free catalogs of paperbacks published by the paperback publishers, through them from the beginning, and bought books I was interested.
最近は、本屋に行かなくても、電子メールによる宣伝やFacebook等のSNSで見かけて興味を持ってしまった場合が多くなっている。今はやたらとあちこちに「あなた、これ欲しいでしょ」みたいに宣伝が出てくるのでついクリックしてしまう。前回書いた「人間性はどこから来たか」はそのケースだ。各出版社のカタログのようなものもネットにあるのだろうが、何故はそれはやらない。熱意か根気がなくなったせいかもしれない。
Recently, although I don't go to bookstores, number of cases is increasing that I am interested in the books that were advertised by Email, in SNS like Facebook. Now, the advertisements like saying "Hey, don't you like this?" appear everywhere, and I click them without considering carefully. The book I wrote in the previous article "Where did humanity came?" was one of the cases. I know each publisher has a sort of net-catalog, but by some reason I do not opt to read them throughly. I may lost patience or passion.
更に、カタログではなく読んだ本に出てきた本を求めるということも結構あった。古くは高校生の時だったか、父から与えられた「海軍主計大尉小泉信吉」という本に出てくる本を色々と漁った。この小泉信吉という人は非常な読書家で、この本はその日記のようなものなのでが、毎日のように「何々読了」というフレーズが出てきた。私も当時つけていた日記に真似して「何々読了」と書いたのを思い出した。
Furthermore, I purchased pretty often books that were referred in books that I had read. An old example is, probably it was when I was in high school, I hunted various books that appeared in a book "Navy paymaster Shinkichi Koizumi". This Shinkichi Koizumi was a man of extraordinary bookreader, this book is a kind of his diary, and there many times appeared the phrases of "I have finished reading..."。I recalled that I wrote similarly in my diary that I was used to write then mimicking Shinkichi.
また、もう引退された公明党の赤松正雄先生から縁あって「忙中本あり 新幹線車中読書録」を頂いたことがある。から読ませていただいた。この方も恐るべき読書家で、山程の本を平らげた様子が書かれている。この中からも何冊もの良い本のヒントを受けた。唯、とても全部読むはできなかったが。後で読んでみようと軽い気持ちで本にタグを付けていたら、先生にびっくりして頂いて、少し恐縮したこともあった。
Also, having had a good opportunity I was once gifted a book "You're never too busy to take a book." by The Hon. Masao Akamatsu (Ret.). He is also a grand bookreader, and the story of devouring mountains of books was described in the book. I learnt many hints of books to read although I could not read all of them. I was ashamed when he surprised to see that I put a lot of tags on the book.
議員は引退されたようだが、これを書くために少し調べたら、流石もと新聞記者でいらしただけに、
同名のブログはまだ続けていらっしゃるようで、嬉しかった。
It looks like he retied a diet member, but searching about him, I am pleased to find he still continues his blog with the same name as he once was a journalist.
さて、今日も図書館から本を借りてきた。話は長くなるが、先日やはり図書館から借りてきた「考える人」の一冊、「数学の言葉」を読んだ時のこと。
Well, today I borrowed a book from a library. It is a long story, but it was when I read "Words in mathematics", one of a series of a magazine "Thinker".
この中の文章に出てきた数学の用語に判らない言葉が幾つもあり大いに不満感が膨れ、唯の暇人でもついていける数学を本がないかと、Amazonで調べていた時のこと、罪作りなアマゾンが「これもいかが」と出してきたのが「現代の古典解析」というもう40年以上前の本。なんとこれは私達が大学一年の前期に解析の授業のテキストであった本ではないか。まあ、これを選んだ先生も変わっていたし、本も変わっているなんてものではない。この教科書のお陰で私はその後の大学の数学についていけなくなった等と、自分の不勉強を棚に上げて筋違いの恨みを感じている。今日出だしを読むと「解析の講義のサワリ集といった性格を持っている。したがって、副教科書ないしは参考書のような気分で、正規の講義と並行して用いられることを考えている。」と書いてあるではないか。しまった。ろくに授業も出ないで、試験前にこの本をウンウン唸って読んでもわからない筈である。
I was very much frustrated when I found many words that I could not understand, so I searched in Amazon for any books of mathematics that just a idler like me can keep up with. Then, it was this book "Contemporary classic algebra" that wicked Amazon brought up like saying "How about this?". Why, it is a text book of an algebra lecture that I attended on the first term of my university freshman year. Oh the teacher who chose this as a textbook is eccentric, and the book is much more than eccentric. I have an unjust resentment that because of this book I became not to able to keep up with lectures of mathematics later on. Today I read the beginning of the book, and to my surprise I found it says "It has a character of a collection of hook lines to algebra. Therefore, I am considering this to be use as feeling like a sub-textbook or a reference book along with a regular lecture." Oops! It is natural that I could not understand mathematics by just reading the book with groan barely attending lectures.
今日借りてきたのは文庫本だが、実際使ったのはこれだ。柳原良平さんのトリスおじさんの表紙カバーだし、数学の教科書として変わっているのは直ぐわかると思う。しかし、私はこういうのが好きなんだなぁ、今でも。ハードカバーの本も図書館のリストにはあったのだが、文庫になったんだぁ、という感動の気持ちを込めて文庫本の方を借りてきたのだ。
The book I borrowed today is a paperback, but the one I really used is this. It is obvious that it is unusual as a mathematics textbook looking at the cover sheet of the book featuring a comical character that is a popular character used for one of popular whisky brand in Japan. But, I like tendency like this still now. The one of hardcover was listed in a library, but I chose this with my thrill that I felt to know the book was published also in a paperback.
とても最後までは読めないと思うが、拾い読みでも当時と今とどの位頭が悪くなったか良くなったか検査するつもりで読んでみようと思う。
「考える人」に書かれていた本も求めなかったわけではなく、選びあぐねた挙句にこれをKindleで買った。少しでもコンピュータと名のつくものを生業とした身としてこのくらいは読んでおかねばならぬかと思ったのだ。
I think I cannot read all until the end, but I will read to examine if I am now better or worse than that time.
It is not that I did not buy any listed in the "Thinker", but I bought this after considering long time. I thought I should read this as a man once of occupation of anything of computers even a little.
