Pilgrimage

2018.6.28

I visited three temples today. Strictly speaking, I visited three morning-markets held in the grounds of temples today. The markets I heard from my bonsai acquaintances. Main targets I looked for are mini-bonsai and pots for them.

The first temple I visited was Ohsu Kannon(Goddess of Mercy). Here it is a flea market people selling old potteries, glasses, kimonos, Buddha statues, etc.   It was kind of fun to look at those curios, I even found some ornaments that I could arrange with my bonsais. However, the prices were a bit expensive and I did not happen to have a lot of cash. I told myself that the market is held every month and I have another chance for sure and moved to the next market.

The next temple is Nishi-Betsuin. I knew there is a mini-bonsai shop. This is it. They sell mini-bonsai at amazing one coin - 500 yen. I chose two and bought them. There are not much to see other than the shop, I moved to the third market.

As I have never walked the back street of this area, I was not bored during 10 min. walk.

The last temple was Higashi-Betsuin. The temple is big and the market is said to be the largest in Aichi prefecture. As the time was around noon, long lines were formed in front of popular food shops.

I had miso flavored fried chicken and coffee, and ate sitting on one of the stumps made for chairs.

I found a mini-bonsai shop here too. The bonsai there were more authentic, looking good and a little expensive. However, the most of the kinds of trees used are from colder areas and I thought it would be hard to maintain during severe summer in here Nagoya.
It was humid and hot, I was a little tired and went back home.

These are the mini-bonsai I bought at Nishi-Betsuni.
