ここはどこ? Where am I?

この写真は北海道でもどっか外国でもないんですよ。
This is not a picture of Hokkaido, nor of some foreign countries.

今日はまた気持ちのいい日になった。自転車ででかける時だ。自転車で出る時は、大体愛知用水沿いを走る。この用水は知多半島やその周辺の島にまで農業、工業、飲料水を供給している。今は独立行政法人水資源機構により管理されている。
It was a pleasant day again today. Time to go out on a bike. Most of the time I bike along the Aichi irrigation channel that provides fresh water for agriculture, industries, and drinking to Chita peninsula and even to several island around there. It is now managed by Japan Water Agency.

用水の両側の殆どのエリアは「みどりが丘公園が管理している。公園の中心部は大きな墓地である。そしてその両側エリアは殆ど緑地として維持されている。

Most of the area near both side of the channel is managed by "Midorigaoka Koen" meaning "Green hill park" of Nagoya city. Main part of the park is a big cemetery. And, the areas are mostly kept as green gardens.

時には綺麗な紅葉を見ることが出来る。
Sometimes we can see exquisite color trees.

幾つかのエリアは果樹園になっている。この巨大な柑橘類は晩白柚だ。
Some areas are used as orchards. These giant citrus fruits are Citrus maxima, in Japanese "Banpeiyu".

もうすぐ食べごろのようだが、しかし、こんな看板があるね。

They look almost ripen. But! There is a sign of "Don't take them, please!"

一番上の写真はこの公園の一部ではなく、個人の牧場だ。牧草が刈られて白いシートに包まれているのが見える。

The picture at the top is not a part of public park, but is a private ranch.
Pasture harvested and wrapped in white sheet can be seen.

Daffodil and carps and colored leaves... 水仙と鯉と紅葉と・・・

うちの近くに小さな川が流れている。今日はその川沿いに散歩にでかけた。いつもの散歩コースだ。週末には運動はしないことにしているのだが、最近少し増えてしまった体重を減らさなくてはならない。いい天気の日で部屋の中で想像していたより暖かだった。

There is a small river flowing near my home. Today, I went out for a stroll along the river. It is a regular route of my walking exercise. During weekend, I do not exercise, but I was to get rid of some weight gained in these days. It was a fine day and warmer than I imagined inside.

黄色のカエデの葉が青い空に綺麗なコントラストとなっている。本当に綺麗な空だと気がついた。
The yellow maple leaves and the blue sky were exquisite contrast. Really beautiful sky I realized.

普通は早春に咲く水仙が今咲いているという噂を最近良く聞いた。私も今日一つ見つけた。
It was rumored recently by many that daffodils are blooming although regularly they bloom in early spring. I found one today.

他にも沢山咲きそうな蕾がある。
There were many buds about to bloom. It has been too warm.

葦の穂が風に吹かれている。冬の間にこれを刈り取ると水質改善にかなり効くと思うのだが。
Ears of reeds were blown in winds. I think if these are cut down during winter, it would help improving the water condition.

鳥が種を蒔いているのだろう。あちこちにピラカンサが見られる。
Probably birds are seedling. Pyracantha was seen here and there.

大きな鯉があちこちにゆったり沢山泳いでいる。
Many huge carps were swimming in a relaxed manner here and there.

多分ここは誰かがいつもエサを上げている場所なのだろう。私の姿を見て鯉が寄ってきた。
Probably, this was a spot where somebody is regularly feeding. Carps came closer finding me approaching.

ポプラの葉も赤くなった。
Poplar leaves have gone red.

アオサギが飛んできた。汚い処で少し可哀想。
A gray heron flew in. It is a pity to have him land on such a mess.

一時間弱だったが、いい散歩になった。
It was less than an hour pleasant promenade.

柿食ば How to eat persimmon.

美味しい果物を食べるには往々にして面倒な皮むきという作業が必要だ。友人から頂いた沢山の柿を前にしていいことを思いついた。
To eat delicious fruits often needs tedious peeling work. Looking at a lot of persimmons given by our friend, I thought of a good idea.

まず、下記を熟して柔らかくなるまで置いておく。
First let it be ripe as it becomes soft.

上部の皮をナイフか何かで剥く。
Peel off the top part of the skin by a knife or whatever.

スプーンを持ってきて掬う
Bring a spoon and scoop the fruit.

食べる
Eat.

完食!
Mission completed!

メディチ家とはなんであったかという反省

2015.11.10

先日のイタリア旅行の半日はフィレンツェで「ウフィッツィ美術館とヴァザーリ回廊ツアー」参加に費やした。ヴァザーリ回廊は一般公開されておらず、ダン・ブラウンの「インフェルノ」を辿りたかった私としてはこの回廊はちょっと欠かせないと思ったからだ。ローマでは、「天使と悪魔」に出てくる名所を巡った。その楽しみよもう一度というわけだ。来年は映画にもなるらしいし。
その割にボーボリ庭園Boboli Gardensは広すぎるのでちょっと見ただけで入っていない。

兎に角、そのツアーにはイタリア人のお嬢さんがガイドとして着いてくれて、流暢な英語で3時間の間こと細かに説明してくれた。私には半分も分からなかったのだが。(笑)
その説明の中に、フィレンツェの名家だから当たり前なのだが、メディチ家の盛衰の話が沢山出てきた。それを聞いていて、どこかでそんな本を読んだことがあることに気付いた。あれを読みなおしておけばもう少し良くわかったのになぁと思った。「インフェルノ」は少し読み返したのに。「コルシカ書店」、これはミラノ話だが、も引っ張り出してきて妻に読ませた。

徐々に記憶を辿って、最後は帰ってきてから今日、googってやっと塩野七生さんの「ルネサンスとは何であったか」だったと思いだした。
 
本棚を探したらまだ残っていた。

昭和20年発行だから過去7年の内に読んだことになる。当時、塩野七生さんの本は読みたかった。「ローマ人の物語」がよくあちこちで取り上げられていたが、余りに長いので読み始めるのが怖くて、その代わりのつもりで買った、というような記憶も蘇ってきた。目次を見るとベニスもローマもフィレンツェも出てくるよ。文中に線まで引いてある。しかし、全く記憶に無い。今年どころか去年の旅に出る前に読んでおけばよかったが、今からでも読みなおしてみようかと思う。

感想はまたの機会に。

モリコロ Morikoro

午後から、妻と「花と緑の夢あいち」というお祭りに行って来た。場所はモリコロパーク(愛・地球博記念公園)だ。

My wife and I went to "Dream of flower and green at Aichi" festival. The location is "Morikoro" park. Morikoro park is a park commemorating 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan. Now, the nickname of the park is "Moricoro park" meaning "Morizo" and "Kikkoro", two mascots of the exposition.

あちこちに花壇がある。チョウチョのカップルが花の周りに集まっていた。
There are flower gardens here and there. Butterfly couples were gathering around flowers.

狙いはプロのガーデナーたちが展示している少庭園だ。

The purpose I went there was to see small display gardens by professional gardeners like these pictures.

筒状の滝(?)。風を受けて形が変わる。
Cylindrical shape waterfall. Getting wind, the shape changes.

日本の市が展示をしている。
Many cities in Japan are showing the displays.

これがモリゾ―・キッコロだ。
This is Morizo and Kikkoro.

この公園はとても広いので歩いて回るととてもよい運動になる。数百円払えば園内を集会している電車にのることも出来る。
The park is really big. Watch around by walk was good exercise for us. If you pay some hundred yen, you can ride a tram that go around the park.

I'd rather do it with Mac やっぱりMacでやりたい

まだ、バイオリンの練習を平日は毎日やっている。もう一年を過ぎた。腕の方はジワジワだが、道具だけは色々発展した。

I am still practicing violin on every weekday. It has been more than a year. My ability is just slowly improving little by little, but at least my equipments have been evolved.

私のバイオリンは電子なので、単独では大きい音は出ない。始めの頃は、だいたいイヤホンを使って音を聞いていた。それから少し音質調整したくなったのと、それにイヤホンとバイオリンとつながっているワイヤが邪魔に思えてきた。
My violin is electric and does not make big sound by itself. First mostly I was using a earphone to listen to the sound. Then I want to have some tone control and started to feel the earphone and the wires to connect to the violin was bothering.

ということで、VOXのベースアンプを購入した。イヤホンワイヤに煩わされずに音が聞けるのはありがたい。それに、低音を大きめにしたり、ドライブをかけることも出来るようになった。
So, I bought a VOX base amplifier. It was nice that I could hear the sound without botherring wires. And I could increase base sound, or add some drive to the sound.


しかし、今日はアンプを使用しないで愛用のiMacだけを使って音が出せないかを調べていた。iMacだけといっても、それに繋いであるBoseのPCスピーカーも使う。
But, today I was exploring to play the violin without the amp using only my loving iMac. Only iMac means iMac and Bose computer music monitor connected to it.

まず、第一に入力した音をスピーカーに繋げなくてはならない。そして、その途中で信号の周波数調整や効果をつけられればもっといい。最後に、練習風景をビデオに記録できれば素晴らしい。驚くことにこれら全てほとんどがフリーのソフトでできてしまった。

First, I have to feed input sound to the speaker. And on the way it would be better to equalize and add some effect to the signal. After all, that is great if I can record video while I am practicing. Surprisingly all these were made possible by mostly free softwares.

LineInは不可欠だ。これなしでは入力信号をスピーカーに繋ぐことができない。非常に単純だが役に立つソフトだ。Hear はエフェクタ／イコライザだ。そしてこれだけは30日以上使用するのに$20が必要となる。本質的にバイオリンは高音を出すのは得意だが低音はどちらかといえば弱い。だから、イコライザは私のような初心者には大変助かる。 viJournal は基本的にBlogを作るためのソフトだ。そして、そのための一つのツールがビデオ記録だ。このツールは私には役に立つ。ScreenFlowというもっと高機能のツールがあり、これはビデオ編集能力もある。 しかし、これは少々お高い。Soundflowerは、システム拡張ツールでアプリケーション間でサウンドやりとりを設定できる。ダウンロードはしたが、どう使おうか見つけ切らないでいる。ちなみに、私は譜面を表示するのにも、チューニングにもiMacを使っている。ということで、もし全てのアプリを一度に表示すると、今の普通の画面は、これだ。

LineIn is the must. Without this, I cannot direct the input signal to output port. It is very simple but useful software. Hear is the effecter/equalizer, and only one I have to pay $20 more than thirty days. Essentially, a violin is good at creating high pitch sound and relatively weaker low sound. So, equalizer is very helpful for a beginner like me. viJournal is a basically a software to help creating a blog. And one of the tool it has is recording a video. That tool is useful for me. There is a more powerful software ScreenFlow that has video editing capability. But, it is a little expensive. Soundflower is a sysem extension that enable to to direct sound between applications. I downloaded this, but cannot find a place to apply this. By the way I am using iMac also to display scores and tuning. So, now the typical screen is like this if I try to display all the applications at the same time.

iPodでyoutubeの音楽が聞きたい!! その理由は・・・結構長いよ。

Wanna listen to the music from youtube on my iPod!! It is a long story. Here's why.

暇な時間が持てるようになったので、バイオリンの練習を始めた。とは言っても、小さい時にそれも数年しか練習したこともなく、今更先生につくのも面倒くさい。

Having a lot of free time, I started to practice playing violin. Having said that, I merely practiced violin at my very young age for just a few years, and don't like to bother learning from a instructor, neither.

最初は兎に角、初心者向け曲集を探して、実際何冊か買ってみた。譜面台も自作した。しかし、しばらくすると楽譜や諸々を仕舞う場所にも困り始めた。何せ断捨離世代だ。そこで、方針を変えて、PCとインターネットに頼ることにした。インターネットには無料の譜面が幾つもあるし、Youtubeには基本的なインストラクションからプロによる素晴らしい演奏もある。

First I was trying to find a good scorebooks, and bought some. I made score stand, myself.  However, after a while, it was getting bothersome to find a place to store the scores and stuffs. I am getting old and have to reduce what I own. I changed my strategy to depend on PC and internet. I can find free-scores on many internet sites, and in Youtube from basic instruction videos to great performances by professional players.

ということで、インターネットに助けと貰うバイオリン練習を始めてから一年が経った。新しい曲を練習する時、楽譜だけでは曲が把握できないので、プロの演奏を聞くというのが不可欠だ。そして、外出している時もその演奏を聞きたくなることが時々ある。勿論、携帯でYoutubeを聞くことも出来るのだが、節約生活の私の契約では無料の通信料は限定(3GB/月)されている。オフラインアクセスがしたい。

So, it has been about a year since I started internet-supported violin practice. Since I cannot completely grasp each music just by reading scores, the examples by the pro-players are essential for me to practice unfamiliar music.
Sometimes, however, when I am away from home, I still would like to listen to the performance of pro-players. You can listen to Youtube by a phone, but, amount of my free communication of my contract is very limited, only 3GB/month to cut down unnecessary cost. I need offline access.

という訳で、いつものように数時間googって、それなりの解を見つけた。これを忘れないようにここに書いておく。

So, I googled for a few hours as usual, , and reached a reasonable solution. Being afraid of forgetting how I do this, I write down the process here.

1. 先ずYoutubeからビデオ・ファイルをダウンロード
始め、clipconverterというオンライン・サイトを試した。これはビデオの中の音楽部分だけダウンロードできてとても良かったのだが、ダウンロード後に別のサイト、多分スポンサー、に転送しようとする。そして、そのサイトが時々非常に怪しい。ということでも少し手間のかかる方法にした。
"Wondershare Free Youtube Downloader"という文字通りのフリーソフトはYoutubeのビデオをMacのmp4ビデオファイルとしてダウンロードできる。有料($20)バージョンではビデオファイルを音楽ファイル、例えばmp3等に変換できるのだが、無料版ではこれはできない。
しかし、後日このソフト会社には悪いうわさもあることを知った。本当のことかどうかは判ら無い。今のところ、私は被害を受けている様子はないようだ。

1. Download video files of youtube.
I first tried "clipconverter" online download site. It was excellent as it downloads only music part of the video just by simple procedures, but right after the download the sight tried to send me to the other, probably sponsors, sites. And, sometimes the site looked really suspicious. So I chose to more tedious way.
"Wondershare Free Youtube Downloader" the free software as the name shows can let me download youtube video to mp4 video file on my Mac. The better version, that is about $20, lets you convert the video to music file, mp3 or whatever, but free version does not.
However, later I found the software company has a bad rumor that I don't know true or not. It looks like the software has not harm me so far.

2. ビデオ・ファイルを音楽ファイルに変換
アップルのお陰で、MacOS、これも今は無料だが、に無料でバンドルされているQuicktimeがこの機能を持っている。Quicktimeでファイルを開けると、音響部分だけをm4aファイルで書き出す機能がある。

2. Convert a video file to music file
Thanking to Apple, free software "Quicktime"; that is built into MacOS, that is also free now; can do this. Opening a video file by Quicktime, It has a function to extract an audio portion of it and save m4a file.

3. iPodに転送
初めはm4aをmp3に変換しようと考えたのだが、ma4そのままでiTuneに読み込めて、結果的にiPodに転送できることが分った。

3. Transfer to iPod
First I was trying to find a way to convert from m4a to mp3. However, I found a m4a file can be read by iTune, and so can be transferred to iPod namely.

染めてみた Dyeing

去年、白いマフラーが古くなり少々シミも目立つようになってきたので桑の実で染めてみた。結果はあまりうまく行かなかった。その時は何の知識もなかったし、実の量が少なかったのと漬ける時間も足りなかったのだと思う。去年は季節も少し遅くて十分に実を集めることができなかった。
I tried to dye my white muffler with mulberry last year since it got old and stain got noticeable.  It was not very successful.  I did without any knowledge then, and I think the amount of berries was too little and the time of dyeing was too short. The season was a little late, so I was not able to collect enough berries.

今年もやるぞと心に決めていた。
I was determined to do it again this year.

去年染めたマフラーは右側。元よりすこし茶色くなった。左は私のスカーフで色があまり気に入っていない。今年一緒に染めようと決めた。

The muffler dyed is the one on the right.  Just a little browner.The left one is my scurf that I don't like the color very much.  I decided to dye this year at the same time.

過去数日間500ccペットボトルが一杯になるまで桑の実を集めた。次にネットで幾つかのサイトを調査。"Natural voyage journal"と "工房さくらいろのいえ・流　草木の染め入門" というのは大いに参考になった。
Last couple of days, I collected the berries until I get my 500cc PET bottle filled with berries.  Next, investigated several sites on the net.
"Natural voyage journal", and "工房さくらいろのいえ・流　草木の染め入門" were very helpful.

先ず、桑の実を煮だした。去年は水の中で潰しただけだった。一歩前進だ。
I started boiling berries.  Last year I just crashed berries in water.  One step advanced.

次に媒染液を準備した。去年と同じ焼きミョウバンを使う。
Next prepared fixing solution.  I used alums the same as last year.

バケツの水に3%になるよう溶かした。

Mixed with water in a bucket to get 3% solution.

30分くらい実を煮出してから、マフラーを液に20分浸した。
After boiling berries about thirty minutes, I soaked the muffler in the solution for twenty minutes.

次に媒染液で晒した。赤かったマフラーと液がさっとブルーに変わる。ビックリ。数分間晒した後水でゆすいで脱水機で水を切る。
Next, wash it with the fixing solution.  It turned blue, surprising.  After several minutes I washed in fresh water and spin dried.

マフラー・スカーフにこれを三回繰り返した。
I repeated the process three times for the muffler and the scurf.
