マウイの植物 Plants on Maui

動物については公開した。ということで、当然これはマウイの植物についてです。

I posted about animals. So obviously, this post is about the plants we saw in Maui.

プルメリアは何処にでもあってどこでも咲いています。フラの男性ダンサーが木から花をちぎって髪に刺しているのを一度見ました。この木は私達が滞在したコンドのラナイの前の大きな木です。

Plumeria were common everywhere and flowering everywhere. I once saw a male hula male dancer tore off a flower and put in his hair. This is the big one in front of the lanai of the condo room we stayed.

マンゴーはあちこちで実をつけていました。この木は泊ったコンドの敷地の隣にある木。
Mango was bearing fruits at many places. This is a tree next to the premises of condo we stayed.

実は当然地面に落ちるし、自動車の上にも落ちる。
Fruits naturally drop to the ground, and cars parked.

道沿いにはサボテンの花が咲いていました。
Along the street I saw some cactus flower.

今回の最も素晴らしい経験の１つは実際にレインボーユーカリを見られたこと。ずっと見たいと思っていました。一度種をネットショップで買って蒔いたのですが、駄目でした。こんなにハナへの道のそばにあるというのはちょっとショック。同時に、心無い人の沢山の彫り込みがあったのは悲しかった。
One of the greatest experience for us this time is to see real rainbow eucalyptus. I have been longing to see this for many years. Once I bought seeds from a net-shop, and seeded in vain. It was a kind of shock to know they were growing so close to the road to Hana. At the same time we were sad to see many inscription done by heartless people.

松葉蘭をここで見るとは驚き!
It was surprising that I see whisk fern there.

おおきなバンヤンツリー
Big big banyan tree.

ビカクシダ。これは人が植えたのか、自然に生えたのかわからないなぁ・・・。
Stag-horn Fern. I don't know this is natural or somebody planted there.

南洋杉なのでしょうか?　あちこちにありました。これはプランテーションゴルフ場カパルアコースのクラブハウス前のものです。
Hoop pine? was seen here and there. This was at the entrance of the club house of The Plantation Course at Kapalua.

植物は大好き。私は沢山植物を育てていますが、ハワイの人はいい気候で羨ましい。
I love plants. I grow many plants I envy Hawaiians for their wonderful climate.

マウイの動物、マイウじゃねぇよ Animals at Maui, not Maiu

妻と6月にハワイに行ってきました。今回はマウイとオアフに泊まりました。この記事はマウイで会った動物たちのことです。

My wife and I have been to Hawaii in June. This time we stayed in Maui and Oahu. This article is about the animals that we met  Maui.

我々はマウイ島ナピリ地区のあまり高くないコンドに泊まりました。私達の生活からすれば安くはないのですが、周辺の施設に比べるとお手頃なお値段でした。そこに泊ったのはナピリ地区がスノーケリングやビーチ遊びに良いからです。

We stayed at a reasonable condo at Napili area of Maui island. It is not cheap for our lives, but compared with the surrounding ones it offered a good fee. We stayed there because Napili area is a good place for snorkeling and beach activities.

コンドは少し年季が入っていましたが、私達にとっては快適でした。庭には大きな熱帯樹木が沢山あります。それで、動物たちが何度も部屋に歓迎に来てくれました。

The condo is a little bit aged, but comfortable for us. In the garden there are many big tropical trees. So, animals visit our room often welcoming us.

美しい緑色のヤモリ。もし法に触れなければ、とっても連れて帰りたかった。

A beautiful green Gecko. If it is not unlawful, I really wanted to take it back home.

紅冠鳥。この鳥は最初の朝に来てくれてとても人懐っこい感じでした。しかし、その後2度と来なかった。
Cardinals. They visited us in the first morning and were very friendly, but never again.

今回はイルカウオッチングのツアーに参加しました。ツアー中、一度だけハシナガイルカの大群に会い、ボートの側まで来てくれました。
This time we joined a dolphin watching tour. During the tour, a big herd of Spinner dolphins came close to our boat.

また、スノーケリングをコンドのそばやツアーの途中で楽しみました。残念なことに、水中カメラ用のメモリーカードを自宅に置き忘れてしまい、マウイで買ったフジの使い捨てカメラで撮ったのです。撮りやすさは良かったのですが、出来た写真は私のカメラほどではありませんでした。

Also, we enjoyed some snorkeling near our condo and also during the tour. Unfortunately I left my memory card at home for my underwater camera and took pictures with a Fuji disposable camera I bought in Maui. It was easy to frame, but the pictures were not as good as the ones with my camera.

 2匹か4匹の文鳥がほぼ毎日ラナイの前のプルメリアの木に来ていました。
Almost every morning two to four Java sparrows were on a plumeria tree in front of the lanai of our room.

見慣れない動物との遭遇や日本にもいる動物との再会はいつも楽しい。
It is always fun to encounter animals that are not familiar to us and also reunion ones also found in Japan.

もう一冊の本 Another book

また別の本の話である。これも何年も前に買った本で、その理由はもうとうに忘れてしまった。栞に使われていたのはまたもやボーディングパスの半券、ダレスからサンフランシスコ行き、年は不明だが4月1日午前6:45搭乗。時刻と席(2A = ファーストクラス)から考えて、日本に帰る途中だったようだ。ダレス空港で買ったのかもしれない。
This is about another book I read, again. This was also bought many years ago by some reason that I have forgotten already. The bookmark put was again a stub of a boarding pass from Dulles to San Francisco boarding at 6:45 AM on April 1, year unknown. It looks like I was on my way to go back to Japan considering the time of the flight and the seat was 2B, first class. Maybe I bought this at Dulles.

とにかく、昨晩これを読み終わった。SFの短編集である。正直言って、殆どの話はあまり感心しなかった。１つは陳腐と思ったし、他の話も飛びすぎていたり、技術的過ぎる気がした、しかしこれらは有名な賞を沢山受賞しているのである。
Anyway, last night I finished reading the book. It is a collection of short SiFi stories. Frankly speaking, I did not appreciate much about the most of the stories. I thought one of them was corny, the others were too far out, or too techie, although all those received many famous awards.

私が一番興味を持ったのは「顔の美醜について ― ドキュメンタリー」である。Lookism(「見た目による差別」)に関する話である。このテーマに焦点を当てるため、彼は人々からLookismの感覚を取り除く仮想の装置の存在する社会を想定している。人々が、社会がLookismからどう影響されているか或いは搾取されているか。
The one I was most interested among them, was "Liking what you see: A documentary".  It is a story about "lookism". He focuses on this theme by imagining a society with a fictious device that deprives the sense of lookism from people. How people and our societies are affected and also exploited by lookism.


最近SFの役割の１つは特定の技術や社会システムによって社会がどう変化するかを明示することではないかと考えている。新技術を単純に説明するより、そういった新しい物が存在する社会を各種側面から現実味を持って表現する方が、ずっと結末を理解するために効果的ではないかと思う。特別なソフトやシステムを使わない一種のシミュレーションである。私は、その話がそういう装置が出来たら人や社会はどうなるかをうまく表していると思う。更に、Lookismが現在の社会にどう悪影響を及ぼしているかを批判していると思う。しかし、これは何の賞ももらっていないようだ。私の審美眼はそんなものなのだろう。
I recently think one of SiFi roles is to demonstrate how our society would change with a certain new technology or a social system. I think, compared with just a description of the new tech, a story illustrating the society with those new stuffs from various perspectives with reality is far effective to understand the outcome. It is a kind of simulation without a dedicated software or systems. I think the story does a good work to illustrate how the society and the people would be with the device. Moreover, I think it criticizes how lookism IS affecting current society. However, the story seems not having received any award. Well, my sense is just at that level, I guess.

この本がどの位日本で人気があるのかをAmazonで調べてみた。あった。驚いたことに、「No.1ベストセラー」であり、評価は4/5である。もしかしたら、ちゃんと辞書を使いながら読めば味が判るのかもしれない。
I tried of find out how popular he is in Japan by searching at Amazon. Here it is. To my surprise, it is said as "No.1 Best Seller" and rated 4/5. Maybe, I should have used a dictionary to fully appreciate the stories.

興味が湧いてきて、私が持っているのと同じ本を探してみた。何と! 新品の価格は非常に高価、100,000円辺りである。ビックリする。
I got curious and tried to find the same book I have. Here it is. Oh, what! The price of the book are hovering at an extremely high level, $10k!  Amazing!

中古品でも1,000円位。元値が$15なのに。ゴミ箱に捨てようと思っていたが、Amzonで売りに出すことにした。(笑)
Even an used one is on sale at about $10. The original price was $15. I was thinking to toss it into garbage bin, but change my mind to sell at Amazon. ;-)

ムサシアブミである

2017.5.11

久しぶりに東山公園に行こうと思った。東山動公園駅で降りた私は、しかし公園に近い出口とは反対の出口に向かった。

時間は12:30の昼食時、以前一度行きそびれたこの店「ふ〜助」に行こうと思ったのだ。東山公園に近いからと妻が何かで見つけて教えてくれた。先回はお昼には早すぎて空いていなかったのだ。

入ると半分より少ない位の席が埋まっていた。静かな客ばかりである。一人と言うとカウンターに案内された。両側のオヤジたちは一杯やりながら何やら召し上がっている。私は今から歩かねばならないので、オヤジたちに付き合うのは我慢して、あらおろし蕎麦、だったかな、荒削りの大根おろしをかけた冷たい蕎麦を注文した。出てきた蕎麦には梅肉が付いている。一気に入れずに少しづつ入れて食べてくださいというご指導をもらい、頂くと、蕎麦も汁も梅とのコンビネーションも旨い。食べながらツマミのメニューを横目で見ながら帰りに又寄ろうかなどと考えてしまう。いや見つけものであった。又来よう。

そういえば、蕎麦屋に入る時、隣にも何人か客が入っていくのが、見えた。ちらりと見ると、隣も良さそうである。軽薄浮気者だ。

等と考えながら、動物園を抜けて植物園に向かう。名古屋で最高の気候のこの時期、幼稚園児の遠足だか園外保育だかのオンパレードである。平日だが、ソフトクリームにかぶりつく家族連れも結構いる。蕎麦しか食べていないので何かタンパク質をと思って売店を覗くが、全て炭水化物が付いている。せいぜいナゲットだが、これは先回も食べたので、タンパク質は少し後回しとした。

植物園の展示館では苔玉の展示をしていた。苔玉というより、丸い玉のような鉢に植えた草物盆栽である。色々と頑張って植えてあったが、感動するほどの物は、残念ながら無い。売っていた植物もあああれねという程度。そこそこに温室に移動した。

温室にも春は来るのですな。色々と花が咲いている。ありがたいのは外とあまり気温の差がないので、レンズが曇らない。

これは蘭。中心の控え目な飾り模様がいじらしい。

最後の部屋には花茎がグーンの伸びている大きく育った笹の雪。春だなぁ。

温室を出ると外は五月の気持ち良い空気。これは花菖蒲らしい。地味なところが魅力的だ。原種なのだろうか。

このモミジは色が白っぽくて光が透過する。欲しいなぁ。

水辺にはよくある花菖蒲。しかし、水鏡が美しい。

 写真では、よく見ないとわからないかもしれない。

反対側から見たら、噴水が一緒に写ってくれた。

木陰にも白い涼しげな花。

と、見つけた。ムサシアブミである。家のもこれかもしれないな。

例年どこかでみる、ナンジャモンジャの木。ヒトツバダコと書かれることもあるが、ヒトツバタゴ(一つ葉田子)が正しいのか?結構見ることもあるのだが、Wikipediaによれば絶滅危惧II類 (VU)（環境省レッドリスト）らしい。

タイサンボクかと思ったが、中部の人には朴葉味噌でおなじみの朴の木の花である。葉は30cm位ある。

植物園を出て、星が丘テラスで、キッシュと元町メンチカツを頂いた。東山巡りは止められないなぁ。

少し変化を Little changes

今日はこどもの日である。
Today is a "Children's day" in Japan. To celebrate and pray for healthy growth of children.

私は時間のたつ速さについて考えがある。多くの人が子供の時は時間が長く感じたと言う。つまり、一年がとても長く感じたのだ。しかし、大人になってしまうと時間がとても速く過ぎてしまう。どうしてなのか私は説明できる。子供の時は新しくてドキドキする経験が沢山有る。だから、記憶には沢山の出来事が残り、一年がとても長く感じたのだ。しかし、大人になると多くの出来事に慣れてしまうしそんなに多くのワクワクする出来事にも出くわさなくなる。したがって記憶することも少しになり、時間が短いと感じるのだ。
I have one opinion about  the speed of the passage of time. Many people say that they felt duration of time longer when you were kids. So you felt , say, a year was very long. However, when you grow up, you feel time passes very fast. I have an explanation why. When you were a child, you experience a lot of new and exiting events. So, your memory was filled with a lot of events, and that made you feel one year was very long. However, as an adult you got used to many happening or you come not to be fascinated at many things. So, there is not much to remember, and that makes you feel time is short.

いずににしても、ある程度の変化は頭脳を刺激するのに必要だし、健康にもいいに違いない。
Anyway, I think some change is necessary to stimulate your brain, and should be good for your health.

今日は私の生活に最近起こした変化について紹介したい。1つは、家では殆どの時間エプロンをしている。近所に行くときにさえもだ。単に料理、皿洗い、園芸で服が汚れるのを防ぐためであった。しかし、初めた時には予期しなかった良いことがあった。1つは、かなり温かいということだ。もう一つは、エプロンをして買い物に出かけると面白いことが起きるのだ。私が買い物に行くと、必ず何人かの人が近付いてきて、「すいません・・・」と話しかけてくる。私は、「すみません、私はここで働いているものではありません。」と答える。大抵の人は微笑み返してくれる。人々との気持ちのよい交流である。
Today, I want to introduce some change in my life recently. One is I wear an apron most of the time at home, and even when I go out near my home. It is just to prevent to stain my cloth by cooking, dishing, and gardening. However, I found some other merits that I had not anticipated when I started this. One is it makes you fairly warm. The other is interesting things happen when you go out for shopping with one.  Every time I go shopping, invariably some people came to talk to me saying, "Excuse me..." I say, "Sorry, I am not working here." Usually they smile back. Some comfortable interaction with people there.

私のもう一つの変化はPCを食器棚の上に置いて底で使い始めたことだ。そう、立っていなくてはならない。以前は椅子に座って何時間もPCを使うのが習慣だった。このほうが筋肉にいいだろうと思って始めたのだ。実際、背中の筋肉や腿にストレスを感じるる効いている。更にもう一つのメリットがあった。このおかげでお通じがとても良くなったのだ。詳しくは説明しないが。
Another change is I placed my note pc on top of a cupboard and using it there. Yes, I have to be standing. Before, it was my custom to use PC for many hours while I was sitting on one of the chairs. I started this thinking it should be good for your muscles. Actually, I feel stress in my back muscles and upper thighs. It really works. Moreover, there is another merit. I feel it helps regulate bowel movements very much, although I won't go into the details.

ということで、生活のちょっとした変化は健康によいようである。
So, after all some changes in your life is good for your health.

ボタンの季節 The season of peony

2017.4.27

少し遅すぎるのは判っていたが、徳川園に牡丹を鑑賞に行った。

I knew it was a little too late, but I went to Tokugawa Garden to appreciate peony. 

入り口を入ると直ぐ迎えてくれたのは白山木であった。秋・冬に赤い実は何度も見たが、花を見るのは初めてだ。白い小さな花で清々しい気持ちにになれた。

Right after I passed through the entrance,  viburnum trees welcomed me. I saw red fruits in autumn and winter several times, but I have never sees the flowers. The white small flowers make me feel fresh.

次はシャガ。
The next was irises.

次はカキツバタ(?)。
Another species.

シャクナゲの季節でもあることを思い出させてくれた。
I was reminded it was a season for rhododendron, too.

やっと牡丹である。殆どは盛りを過ぎていたが、日陰にある幾つかはまだ綺麗であった。
Finally, peonies. Most of them were after their primes, but some in the shady places were still beautiful.

牡丹の隣には藤が咲いていた。
Next to the peonies were wisteria.

小さな庵の長椅子に座った。そこからの景色はカエデの若葉と池のコントラストで美しいものであった。台の上にはエビネが飾ってあった。
I sat down on a bench at a small hut. The view from the bench was beautiful with the contrast of young leaves of maples and a pond. A pot of calanthe was displayed on a table.

ここには小さな流れや滝がある。水の美しさが若葉の緑でいや増していた。

There is a small stream and a falls. The beauties of them were emphasized by the green  of young leaves.

出口で面白いイベントのポスターを見つけた。この山車は何十年も前に、中学生の時に学校の窓から何度か見たことがある。 これを見に来るのも面白いかもしれない。
At the exit, I found a poster of interesting event. I several times saw these floats from the window of our school many years ago. I may be fun to come and see these.
